This is why the show is so full of angst. This is why the fandom goes bat shit crazy every time someone dies.
Usually, when a character dies in an anime, he/she has famous last words, or moments of pity where you really relate with the character, honorable hours of death.
In Shingeki no Kyojin, we get none of that. Marco, Petra, Auruo and all the rest… they died in panic, fearing for their life, knowing that their time was up but refusing to accept it. It’s so sudden that even they don’t see it coming.
They don’t die a hero’s death, and rely on the memories of their friends to carry on their legacy. They are erased, just like that. They don’t get a grave, they don’t get an honorable mention. The fact that they’re gone so easily destroys not only the characters but the fandom too, but we still have to deal with the hard truth: moving on and acceptance.
It’s painful, because even their last words, their last imprint and announcement to this world in this lifetime…
Is menial, not quote-worthy in the least. They’re nothing. Nothing but a reminder of their despair during the hopelessness of battle.
